Why Us, For This Island
We moved our family to Mallorca, where we live slowly, and scout relentlessly.
Not a familiarisation trip. A year of school runs, Saturday markets, and the slow accumulation of knowing which places are worth it. Ryan started in hospitality at a boutique hotel front desk, then worked on pricing strategy at Wynn Resorts and in marketing at Expedia and TripAdvisor. Renae left corporate finance to build a luxury travel advisory and has spent years booking high-end rooms for clients who expect details to go right.
Living slowly
Cortados at the same cafe every morning, bread and cheese from the same market stalls every Saturday, the kids scootering across a plaza in Palma while we finished a glass of white. We found the ice cream shop that sources local dairy and the calas locals rate one star on Google to keep people away. Daily life is how you learn the things no concierge will tell you.
Scouting relentlessly
We checked into the Belmond, ate the surf and turf at the Sea Club at Cap Rocat, and found what might be the most magical hotel room on the island at Son Net. We chartered boats, had lunch with hoteliers, and crossed the island most weeks looking at rooms. Everything on this page came out of that.
This is how we work on every destination, but Mallorca is the one we got to know by living in it.

The biggest luxury opening Mallorca has seen in years: a beachfront peninsula outside Palma with two private coves, a Matsuhisa, and a brand that does not do quiet arrivals. We wrote up what the property is, who it suits, and what to ask for before opening-year inventory disappears.

Our take
A 19th-century military fortress turned hotel. There is nothing else like it on the island, and staying in an old bunker carved into the rock is the closest thing to sleeping in a Bond villain's lair. Secluded and very private. The rocks are harsh underfoot and breakfast gets repetitive over a full week.
Know before you go
The Sea Club is worth a lunch on its own: salt-baked sea bass and a glass of rosé. You are twenty minutes from Palma and feel like you are on another planet.
Formentor Peninsula
Four Seasons Formentor
Our take
The biggest name on the island is back. Much more a classic resort than the small fincas, and the renovation kept the historic bones while adding the glossy parts people expect. Busy in the peak summer weeks. The right call for families who want a kids club and more than one pool.
Know before you go
The drive out along the peninsula is narrow and slow. The beach is shared but gorgeous. Give it at least two nights, because getting in and out eats a half day.
Port de Sóller
Jumeirah Port Sóller
Our take
High on the cliff above the harbor, big and polished and run like a professional resort. The infinity pool has the best sunset view in Sóller. It gives up some of the hidden, boutique feeling in exchange for big rooms and easy logistics, which is exactly the trade a lot of families want.
Know before you go
The hotel shuttle runs down to the port for dinner, and the historic tram between the port and Sóller village is worth riding once. The most conventional luxury stay on the coast.

Can Simoneta
Our take
A quiet clifftop spot on the east coast, adults-only and grown up about it. A traditional farmhouse serving Mexican food is a strange combination that somehow lands. The gym is small; the sea views from the garden more than cover it.
Know before you go
Bring sturdy shoes. A steep staircase carved into the cliff drops you straight to the water. Canyamel is a world away from the busy west coast.

Pleta de Mar
Our take
The cooler sister to Can Simoneta, right next door. Every room is a suite, the design is stripped back, and the suites are spread out enough under the trees that you rarely see anyone. The paths get confusing at night. Best for couples who want to disappear.
Know before you go
You can use the facilities at Can Simoneta, so take the short path between the two and try both restaurants. Canyamel is sleepy, which is the point.
Camp de Mar
Aethos Mallorca
Our take
Clifftop on the southwest coast with steps down to a small cove. Mediterranean meets design hotel, breezy and unfussy, rooftop pool that catches the sunset. The crowd skews younger and more international than the old fincas.
Know before you go
Twenty-five minutes from Palma, next to a small sandy beach you can walk to. Cove access is via cliff stairs, so not ideal with mobility limits. Andratx and Port d'Andratx are ten minutes away for dinner.
Banyalbufar
Son Bunyola
Our take
Richard Branson's estate, and it is enormous: 800 acres of olive trees and vines. The interiors are polished but keep the old farmhouse structure. It is a long way from shops or towns. For people who want to hike and ignore their phone.
Know before you go
No sandy beach, but the rocky cove swims beautifully. You need a car to reach Valldemossa, Deià, or anywhere for dinner.
Porto Petro
Ikos Porto Petro
Our take
The only high-end all-inclusive we put on a list like this. Huge, well run, and the kids program is a genuine lifesaver for parents. The size makes it feel a bit anonymous. Best for families who want to know the total bill before they land.
Know before you go
Use the Dine Out program, which covers meals at local restaurants in the village. It is the easiest way to see the town while still staying at a resort.

Our take
A heavy hitter on arrival. Two private coves and a Matsuhisa on site is a serious combination for this island. For people who want the newest rooms and a big international brand behind the service.
Know before you go
The peninsula keeps it feeling tucked away even with Palma close by. Ask us early; opening-year inventory at a property like this moves fast.

Our take
Sixties Riviera energy, yellow accents, seaside rather than stone farmhouse. Every room sees the water. The hill it sits on is steep. For design people who want a pop of colour instead of another set of beige linens.

Banyalbufar is famous for its terraces and some of the best sunsets on the island. The village is tiny and very quiet after dark.

The gold standard for Palma. A 19th-century mansion polished to a shine, and everyone we send here comes back happy. Some will find it a touch safe. The service is flawless, which is why it is the right first-time-in-the-city choice.

The rooftop pool is small but the view of the church tower is the picture people take home. Order the calamari sandwich at the rooftop bar.
Palma Old Town

Our take
Dark, moody, and unapologetically sexy. A large hidden garden in the middle of the old town is an absurd luxury, and there are only 24 suites. Theatrical enough that minimalists should look elsewhere. Excellent for a romantic weekend.
Know before you go
Ask for a room with the freestanding velvet-draped tub. The garden pool is heated, so it works in the cooler months too.
Palma Old Town
Es Príncep
Our take
The most hotel-like of the Palma set: a real lobby, a spa, and a Michelin star at Zaranda. The rooftop looks straight over the old sea walls. Rooms are more standard than the riad-style places. Best for travelers who want professional service and cold air conditioning.
Know before you go
Go up to the rooftop for a drink at sunset even if you are not staying. The salt-crusted fish is excellent, and it is the easiest Palma hotel to reach by car.

Our take
The most modern of the group, a Scandinavian read on a Mallorcan palace. Sharp lines, clean wood, the least local-feeling and the most comfortable. A few rooms face a narrow street and stay dim.
Know before you go
The bar occupies an old soap factory inside the building, with enormous ceilings. You are in the middle of the shopping district.

Our take
Maximalist and loud, Moroccan-inspired, big art and dark colour, ten rooms. Not for anyone who wants a generic white room. It can feel dim inside during the day. Interior design people love it.
Know before you go
The cocktails at the bar are among the best in the city. No pool, but the tubs in the rooms are enormous.

Our take
The heavy hitter. Two old manor houses, donkeys wandering the grounds, and tennis courts with a view you will not find anywhere else. Expensive, and formal enough that it will not suit everyone. Right for a splurge stay when the point is Deià itself.
Know before you go
Book El Olivo for lunch weeks ahead. If you cannot get in, the casual terrace is just as good for people-watching. There is a shuttle down to the cove.
Puigpunyent
Son Net
Our take
One of our personal favourites, and home to what might be the most magical hotel room on the island. A 17th-century palace in a valley most tourists skip, a pool cut into the rock, and art on the walls that belongs in a museum. Quieter than Deià.
Know before you go
The treehouse dinner is worth booking. Puigpunyent is small and charming, and this works well as a bookend to a coast stay.

Hotel Valldemossa
Our take
A former farmhouse that feels fresh and healthy rather than heritage-heavy. Wellness is the focus and the spa is very good. Walking distance to the village is the real advantage.
Know before you go
Ask for a room with a terrace. Mist rolling over the valley with a coffee in hand is the reason to be here. The village is ten minutes on foot and busy with day-trippers until late afternoon.

Our take
A grand country estate with gardens big enough to feel like a private park, and they smell like jasmine and lavender. Too quiet if you want any kind of scene. Right for a peaceful, upscale retreat.
Know before you go
Sa Clastra is one of the most romantic dining rooms on the island. The palm-lined driveway makes the arrival. Twenty-five minutes from Palma.

Finca Serena
Our take
The name fits. Adults-only, dead centre of the island, surrounded by vineyards and lemon trees and silence. Rooms are minimal, all linen and stone. The strongest total-detox option on this list.
Know before you go
You need a car to do anything off property. Montuïri is traditional and quiet. Pairs well with a couple of nights in the city.
Sa Pobla / Pollença
The Lodge Mallorca
Our take
A large nature reserve with sharp, modern design and a restaurant built around open-fire cooking. More modern than a typical finca. Kids welcome from 14. Spread out enough that you will walk a lot. A luxury ranch, essentially.
Know before you go
Order the grilled meats. The infinity pool over the fields is where to be at sunset. Close to the mountains but technically down in the flats.
Santanyí

Our take
Unusual because it sits inside the town of Santanyí: old stone walls and a big pool, but the market is a two-minute walk. Not a remote field stay. Ideal if you want to walk to dinner and still have a quiet courtyard to come back to.
Know before you go
The Saturday market is excellent and very busy, so go early and retreat to the pool. Some of the best beaches on the island are ten minutes away by car.

Es Racó d'Artà
Our take
Closer to a wellness centre than a hotel. Slow living and sustainability all the way through, down to their own flour mill and woven baskets. Barefoot luxury. For yoga, meditation, and organic food.
Know before you go
Artà is a good town with a fantastic bakery, Pastisseria Can d'en Marc. The estate is large, so bring comfortable shoes. Very close to the east coast beaches.

Can Aulí
Our take
An adults-only retreat tucked into the old town of Pollença. A handful of rooms, a leafy courtyard, a small pool that feels close to private, and design that leans on local craft. A townhouse hideout rather than a big estate.
Know before you go
A few steps from the 365-step Calvari climb and the Sunday market. Adults 14 and over. No sprawling grounds, because the village is the point. Drive to the calas around Formentor for beach days.

Pricing
Hotels pay us. Not you.
Hotels pay us a commission built into the rate. We want this to be free for you, and it usually is. The math works when your stays average somewhere around $750 to $1,000+ a night over time. That might be a week at Cap Rocat in June and two nights at a Hyatt Place in Cleveland the next month. Totally fine. What we care about more: that the stay matters to you, you're reasonable to work with, and a good guest for the hotels we send you to. As our hotel partners see the pattern of us sending good people their way, they welcome you accordingly.
